Alan Mann, Artistic Director of the Opera Theatre of Connecticut

Alan Mann

On April 16th, SSILL welcomed Alan Mann, Artistic Director of the Opera Theatre of Connecticut to talk to SSILL members and guests about the development of the Verismo Opera. The event took place at the Guilford Free Library.

Verismo Opera is a late 19th century Italian operatic movement that includes raw, passionate, and even violent stories of everyday people.

The presentation included visual slides of the Opera along with musical examples.  Alan has presented to the SSILL membership on several occasions and his presentations are always an immensely popular event for SSILL.  SSILL is fortunate to have Alan return year after year, he has truly been very generous with his time.

The Opera Theatre of Connecticut was founded in 1986 to provide artists with the opportunity to realize their talents and perform on stage to a wide audience and to provide high quality performances at a reasonable price to the community.

One member exclaimed, “Fabulous! I am glad I had my tissues.”  Another said, “Informative, lovely and moving.”
