Julie Fitzpatrick in “The Belle of Amherst”

Julie Fitzpatrick in “The Belle of Amherst”

On Tuesday, November 4th, SSILL welcomed Julie Fitzpatrick to perform in a one-woman show of Emily Dickenson in the “The Belle of Amherst”.   The play was written by William Luce in 1976.  Julie is a performer, poet, writer, teacher, wife, and mother.  It was a treat to have such an extraordinary local talent perform for the membership.

Julie transported the audience back in time as she embodied Emily Dickenson and brought her to life.
After the performance, Julie took the time to discuss her journey into the acting profession, and some of the core elements of the craft.

The audience was truly engaged, and Julie answered several questions from the group.  Many people in the audience voiced a desire to learn more about Ms. Dickenson’s life.   One SSILL member exclaimed, “The best SSILL program ever! I want to read all about Emily Dickenson and go to Amherst to see the hills.”

Prior to the event, SSILL asked the membership to bring non-perishable food items to the session to help those in need.  The response was overwhelming!

The membership donated a truckload of food items.  For this, SSILL is extremely grateful for the generosity and thoughtfulness of the SSILL members.

Thanks to all who participated!!
