Pollinator Garden

On June 4th, SSILL welcomed Crystal Gaudio, RLA, founder and owner of Rubus Landscape.  Cyrstal provided a wealth of information and instruction on how to create a pollinator garden.  She shared one of her projects by describing the stages she took in creating the Meadow on Fair Street in Guilford.

This property just so happens to be her Mother-in-law’s property. Her  photos depicted what the yard looked like during each stage of the process.  Crystal explained that full sun is required for achieving a successful pollinator garden. The first step in the process was clearing the yard, including removing invasive plants.

She used black plastic to cover the ground to prep it for planting.   Crystal recommends waiting a full season prior to planting the meadow, however, there are other options to creating the garden. For plant selection, Crystal emphasized matching your plants to your site for a successful garden. The session was quite educational and enjoyed by the attendees. One member stated, “I have new ideas which I will try in my garden”. Another stated “Well done – informative base to pursue further interest”.
