Dr. Michael Saxe, Emergency Medicine, Middlesex Hospital

On Tuesday, November 21, 2023 160 SSILL members were privileged to hear Dr. Michael Saxe explain how a healthy lifestyle leads to longevity.

Dr. Saxe lecturing at Guilford Community Center

Dr. Michael Saxe practiced emergency medicine at Middlesex Hospital for more than three decades. He earned his MD at the University of Vermont and completed his residency at the University of Washington. As a board-certified emergency physician, Dr. Saxe served as the Chairman of the Middlesex Hospital Department of Emergency Medicine from 1994-2016.

Every day we hear about new diets, drugs, supplements, exercises, and gimmicks claiming to maximize our healthy years. But most of these are not supported by good studies. So, what does the science tell us about what really works? The science proves that a Mediterranean diet, exercise, limited alcohol intake, and good social interactions (like those we have at SSILL) are all important to living a long healthy life.

.

Data shows two important things:  Americans do not have the highest life expectancy and are the fattest country in the world.  Keep your diet mostly plant based, avoid processed foods, and get out and walk!
