Swamp Forests, Great Apes, and Conservation Realities

Katherine Meyer
On September 19th Katherine Meyer, Yale Ph.D. candidate, told her personal story of trudging through the swamplands of Africa and Indonesia to study primates in their natural environments.
When asked if she was afraid of the snakes on the ground, she shared that the poisonous snakes were actually in the trees. She was safe for two years, she told us, until she returned to the major city and was struck by a taxi cab! Her slides showed the wet, muddy ground she spent two years tromping through looking for, and documenting, the habits of orangutans and gorillas. We hope she’ll return to SSILL to bring us more of her fascinating and exiting story.
