On March 19th, SSILL welcomed Justin Hedde, Principal, Centerbrook Architects to provide SSILL members and guests a preview of the newly renovated Yale Peabody Museum. The renovation was an extraordinary project and was the first comprehensive renovation in 90 years.
The presentation was complete with a slide show that included photos of various stages of the project. Images included not only photographs, however, it also included architectural illustrations and drawings. The audience was very excited to learn about what wait’s in store for them the next time they visit the museum. The response from the audience was overwhelming and everyone agreed that they will plan a visit as soon as it opens. One member exclaimed, “Beautifully organized and delivered. Thrilling to see these changes”! Another member stated, “Most exciting – we all cannot wait to visit! Great presentation and what a project!”
In 2018, Yale University announced a gift from Edward Bass of $160 million, for the purpose of renovating the museum. The museum closed its doors in March of 2020 to commence the project.
The museum will reopen to the public on on March 26, 2024. Tickets are free and can be reserved online at: www.peabody.yale.edu/visit. The website has also been updated to highlight many of the exhibits and offerings.
